Members’ of the parliament discipline

The State Duma (Russian parliament) is world wide notorious for fights between members of the parliament and also for the way plenary meetings of the State Duma are held. It is almost a rule that only 20-40%% of the total membership present during voting even if a very important bill is being considered. If this issue is interesting, you can find an episode on the BBC web site about voting on the bill about alcohol limits in blood during driving (It had name like “Voting: Russian style!” or it was just a journalist’s exclamation – I don’t remember right now). This episode was broadcasted last spring.

But now our legislative authorities have decided to end this practice (maybe it is because Dmitry Medvedev mentioned in his speech the bad participation of the members of the parliament in voting). Because of this and for a control there will be installed a special registration system which will recognize parliament members’ faces via eight video cameras installed near the four main entrances/exits into the State Duma’s building.

Let’s see how it would work…

I’ve just watched an enough interesting documentary about the Russian political system and its evolution. It presents a specific point of view. And I want to mention that it is not against Putin as it could be estimated, it’s just about character of the Russian political system.

NATO supports drug dealers!

Last week there were announced that NATO wouldn’t destroy Afghan poppy fields.

But everyone knows that this is a raw material to produce opium and heroin. Does it mean that the US and the UK want to import these drugs into their countries? Or they want to import this poison into Russia?

Today I met a very interesting BBC documentary on YouTube. The most interesting thing of this film is that it contains not only the USA and other Western country’s point of view, but the Russian point of view as well. This film is about the main events of the last two decades and about the Russian attitude towards them. I strongly recommend it to those who wants to understand Russia.

Roads and fools

Here in Russia we have one proverb which means that Russia has only two troubles. They are roads and fools. Also here are many jokes around this proverb. For instance, some people like to say that the another problem is when fools try to repair roads, and this is more scaring trouble for Russia.

And now about the subject of this post. Look at the next photo:

It is the results of road works. They (road works) have been done before the President Medvedev’s visit to Kirov (city in Russia, about 500.000 inhabitants). Road workers covered by asphalt even a rail road crossing. Everything for level road for our President!

After such photos I think that the well-known proverb is truth…

The VIP person’s tax returns

Recently the President of The Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and the Chairman of the Russian government Vladimir Putin published their tax returns 2008.

D.Medvedev’s amount of income was 4.139.726 rubles (about 120.000 US dollars) and V.Putin’s amount of income was about 4.700.000 rubles (about 135.000 US dollars). But D.Medvedev owned more expensive property than V.Putin.

For the most of members of Rissian business community and for the most of highly qualified specialists in Russia such incomes as have the President and the Chairman are not enough high. And one of journalists on radio said that these tax returns showed that to be poor is very popular in Russian politics.
